PATNA - A Bihar court Monday sent a doctor, who allegedly removed the kidneys of a woman, to judicial custody for 14 days after he surrendered in court, police said.

The chief judicial magistrate of Hajipur, the district headquarters of Vaishali, sent Parveen Kumar, a surgeon, to judicial custody after his bail petition was cancelled, police said.

An FIR was lodged against Kumar by relatives of a woman for allegedly removing both her kidneys while he was conducting an operation at his clinic in Hajipur, about 30 km from here.

Sabila Khatoon was admitted last week at the Patna Medical College and Hospital, after her condition deteriorated. Doctors who examined her at a private clinic in Patna confirmed that both her kidneys had been removed.

Earlier, after locals raised a hue and cry about the incident, the district administration ordered a civil surgeon to probe the matter and submit a report.
