GHAZIABAD - Unidentified armed robbers killed a passenger when he resisted their attempt to loot people aboard a moving train in Ghaziabad, police said.

The killing occurred on an EMU train that shuttles between the capital’s suburban Ghaziabad in Uttar Pradesh and Palwal in Haryana via New Delhi Wednesday midnight.

A group of five youths, between ages 20-22 years, boarded the train at Sahibabad station and started looting passengers of a compartment.

A 50-year-old passenger was robbed of Rs.50,000. When Sanjay Kumar, a resident of Nandgram in Ghaziabad, resisted their attempt, the criminals stabbed him, the police said.

They then tried to flee. Four of them alighted at the outer Shahdara station but the fifth one was caught by the passengers and handed over to the Government Railway Police (GRP), Shahdara.

Critically injured Sanjay was rushed to Guru Tegh Bahadur Hospital in Shahdara, Delhi, where he died later because of injuries.

“We have received a copy of the registered case from GRP Shahdara. The case has been registered. We would arrest rest of the criminals soon,” said Hemant Mishra, circle officer of the GRP, Ghaziabad.
