MUMBAI - One woman was killed and another seriously injured Thursday when they were knocked down by a train, leading to thousands of angry commuters blocking suburban train services on the Borivli-Virar sector for three hours during peak time.
According to a railway spokesperson, the agitation started when train services were delayed by 15-20 minutes.
“The delay was due to a woman trespasser getting killed on the tracks and another being seriously injured between Nala Sopara and Virar around 9 a.m.,” the spokesperson told IANS.
Furious with the delay during the office hour rush, commuters blocked all tracks. Security forces and senior official rushed to Virar to pacify the commuters who finally agreed to call off the agitation and the services resumed after almost three hours, the official said.
The injured woman commuter has been shifted to Bhagwati Hospital in Borivli in a critical condition.
