Security guard of ex-MP dies while cleaning rifle

JAMSHEDPUR - A security guard of former Jharkhand MP Suman Mahto died when the rifle he was cleaning fired accidentally hitting him in Jamshedpur city Wednesday.

The accident took place at the residence of former Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM)- parliamentarian Mahto when two of his state police security guards were cleaning their AK 47 rifle and 9 mm pistol. Mahto was an MP from Jamshedpur and his residence is in Gamharia area of the steel township.

“The security personnel of the state police who were posted in security of the JMM ex-MP were cleaning their assault rifles when the bullets went off and hit two policemen. One man died on the spot while another is injured,” a police officer told IANS.

The injured security guard has been admitted to a local hospital. His condition is critical.

“I was not at home when the accident took place. I rushed to my home when I heard about the accident,” Suman Mahto told reporters.
