Iraqi police: bombs kill 1, wound 7 in Baghdad

BAGHDAD — An Iraqi police official says two separate roadside bombs targeting Shiite pilgrims have exploded in Baghdad, killing at least one person.

The official says the first attack took place Wednesday at about 6:15 a.m. in western Baghdad, killing one person and wounding three. He says a second explosion in southwest Baghdad wounded four pilgrims.

The official spoke on condition of anonymity because he was not authorized to release the information.

The bombings are the latest in a string of attacks this week against Shiite pilgrims who are walking to the holy city of Karbala for an important religious observance.

On Monday, a female suicide bomber killed at least 54 Shiite pilgrims in Baghdad.
