1 dead, 15 hurt in Long Island bus crash
NORTHAMPTON, N.Y. — Police say a collision between a bus and another vehicle on eastern Long Island killed one person and slightly injured 15 others.
The crash Tuesday morning involved a Suffolk County Transit bus carrying 14 passengers. The passengers and the bus driver were taken to hospitals.
The driver of the other vehicle was killed; he was identified as 21-year-old Michael Brown of Greenport.
The crash happened around 7:40 a.m. near Northampton. Police say it appears Brown drove his compact car through a stop sign and was hit by the bus.
The rural area of Long Island is about 75 miles east of Manhattan.
