Policemen honoured in Uttar Pradesh on R-Day

LUCKNOW - Uttar Pradesh marked the nation’s 61st Republic Day Tuesday with an impressive march past in front of the state assembly and saw a number of police personnel being honoured for meritorious services.

The main function was held at the Vidhan Sabha Marg where Governor B.L. Joshi hoisted the national flag and took the salute at the impressive march past. Chief Minister Mayawati was also present at the function.

Different wings of Uttar Pradesh police, home guards, contingents of the Armed Constabulary and National Cadet Corps (NCC) participated in the parade. A number of police personnel were honoured during the main function for their meritorious services.

Children from several schools also took part in the parade. Students presented lively dances and showcased tableaux highlighting the rich cultural heritage of the state.

Government offices and private establishments in various parts of Lucknow were decorated on the occasion.

Security arrangements were elaborate. “A huge police force has been deployed at all important government and private institutes of the city. Three ASP (additional superintendent of police) rank officials, nine circle officers, 120 sub-inspectors, 482 constables, 57 head constables and 30 women constables have been deployed at various places,” said ASP East Harish Kumar.
