PATNA - The widow of slain businessman Satyendra Kumar Singh Tuesday demanded death penalty for Chanakya, son of former MP and Janata Dal-United (JD-U) leader Vijay Krishna who is accused of abducting and murdering Singh last year.

Chanakya, who was at large for more than six months, was arrested Monday night.

“We want death penalty for Chanakya, who made me a widow and my children orphans,” Laxmi Singh, widow of Satyendra Kumar Singh, told IANS.

She said Chanakya deserves punishment and should not be given anything less than death penalty.

Laxmi said the government should order a speedy trial in this case for justice. “Speedy trial is a must in this case for justice,” she said.

Krishna and Chanakya have been accused of kidnapping and killing 50-year-old Satyendra and dumping his body in the Ganges. Krishna’s domestic help had revealed that Singh was killed in a flat owned by Chanakya in the presence of Krishna. Blood stains were also found by the police in the same flat.

Early this month, the Patna High court granted bail to Krishna, who was in jail for over six months. After he was granted bail, the businessman’s family said it will approach the Supreme Court soon against the high court order.
