Speeding truck kills Mumbai schoolgirl, injures two

MUMBAI - In a gruesome early morning tragedy, an 11-year-old schoolgirl was killed and two students injured when a speeding truck knocked them down at a busy junction while they were going to school here Thursday.
According to an official of the Kurar Police Station, the truck was speeding along the Western Express Highway near Pathanwadi in Malad east around 7.15 a.m. when the incident occurred.
Hundreds of students were going to different schools at the busy junction of the highway and Pathanwadi when the truck ran over the three students.
Shruti Vishwakarma, 11, was killed instantly while two girls were injured. A doctor at the Bhagwati Hospital said the condition of one of the victims was serious.
Shortly after the accident, a huge angry crowd gathered at the scene of the tragedy and pulled down the truck driver, 22-year-old Riyaz Nabi Sheikh.
They vented their anger by thrashing him all the way to the Kurar Police station where he was placed under arrest and charged with rash and negligent driving.
