BHUBANESWAR - Two people have been detained in connection with an attack on a Russian tourist at Orissa’s beach town of Puri, police said Tuesday.

They were detained after Lisina Nadedza, a telecom engineer, complained that she was attacked and robbed of her belongings Monday.

“We have detained two youth. They are being interrogated,” B.P. Pati, inspector in charge of the Sadar police station, told IANS.

According to the victim, she was on a bicycle when a man attacked her with a sharp knife and tried to snatch her bag.

“The person waylaid me while I was going on my bicycle. He tried to snatch my bag. He stabbed me and decamped with my mobile phone and money,” said Nadedza.

The tourist, who has been in Puri for some days, received stab injuries on her left hand.

Puri is 56 km from state capital Bhubaneswar.
