LUCKNOW - A teacher allegedly chained two students of a madrassa (seminary) in Uttar Pradesh’s Hardoi district for more than seven hours as a punishment for bunking classes, police said Tuesday.
To discipline the students, aged 11 and 8 years, Mohammad Ayub Monday morning chained them inside a small, dingy room of the seminary in Barauli village of Hardoi, some 110 km from state capital Lucknow.
As the two students did not return home on time, their parents along with other locals reached the seminary Monday evening and freed them.
Agitated over the punishment meted out to the students, they demanded arrest of the teacher. The angry villagers also vandalised the seminary.
The teacher is absconding, police inspector V.S. Verma told IANS.
“We came to know about the teacher’s inhuman act from local journalists and a group of villagers who rescued the two children,” he said.
