ROHTAK - An unemployed youth, who had cleared the eligibility test for recruitment as a teacher but was not appointed, Sunday unsuccessfully attempted to immolate himself near Haryana Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda’s local residence here, police said.

According to police, over 100 unemployed youths, who had passed the state teacher’s eligibility test conducted by the Haryana School Education Board, had gathered at the Mansarovar Park Sunday and demanded their immediate appointment in government schools.

“Shouting slogans against the government, the protesters started marching towards the local residence of the chief minister,” said a police officer.

“In the meantime, one of the protesters poured kerosene over himself and tried to set himself on fire. However, police overpowered him before he could do so and rushed him to the nearest hospital as a precautionary measure,” the officer added.

Rohtak Deputy Superintendent of Police Dalbir Singh Yadav said that the youth was identified as Ramesh Khokhar, hailing from Sonepat district.

“We have arrested him and registered a case against him,” said Yadav.
