Golden Globes group: Show a go despite Haiti quake
BEVERLY HILLS, Calif. — The group behind the Golden Globes says there are no plans to alter Sunday night’s awards ceremony because of the Haitian earthquake disaster.
Phil Berk, president of the Hollywood Foreign Press Association, said Thursday that “canceling the Golden Globes is not going to help anyone in Haiti.”
Instead, Berk says an announcement will be made during the live NBC telecast from the Beverly Hilton Hotel that the HFPA is making a $100,000 donation to Wyclef Jean’s “Yele Haiti” relief fund for the victims of the quake.
He says the HFPA hopes its example “will cause others to do the same.”
NBC is a unit of General Electric Co.
