La. parish chief expresses anger over lack of information in aftermath of Gulf oil spill

Oil spill info frustrates president of La. parish

NEW ORLEANS — Plaquemines Parish president Billy Nungesser says he’s frustrated with a lack of information from the government in the aftermath of the Gulf oil spill.

He says he’s asked why the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Association can’t provide better information.

Nungesser said he had to send parish officials by air and water Tuesday to search for an unconfirmed report of oil that may have come ashore in Louisiana. The crews did not find any evidence of oil reaching shore.

He’s also frustrated by the Coast Guard, which he says has been hesitant to use his plan to have fishermen lay oil-absorbent boom.

Nungesser says a boat will be sent out Wednesday morning to distribute the boom, which will be used to protect the marshes.
