Eight killed in road accident

LUCKNOW - At least eight people, including seven children, were killed and 25 others injured when the truck in which they were travelling overturned in Uttar Pradesh’s Sonbhadra district Monday, police said.

The accident took place in the Chopan town Monday evening, killing the eight victims on the spot.

“Of the 25 injured, 10 have received serious injuries,” police inspector Shivanand Mishra told reporters in Sonbhadra, some 350 km from Lucknow.

“According to witnesses, the truck overturned as its driver applied the brakes to avoid hitting a pedestrian,” he added.
