BHUBANESWAR - A man was killed in Orissa’s Sambalpur district when he prevented some boys from bursting firecrackers on a city road Diwali night, police said Saturday.

The man was killed Friday night in Sambalpur town, about 320 km from here. Two boys have been arrested, a police official said.

In separate firecracker-related incidents, over 100 people were injured across the state late Friday.

At least 60 people have been admitted to private and government hospitals in Bhubaneswar alone and 15 people were being treated in the Sriram Chandra Bhanja (SCB) Medical College and Hospital at Cuttack, the police official said.

Also, at least 60 shops were gutted at Jajpur town, some 100 km from here, when they caught fire Friday night allegedly from fire crackers.
