600 arrested in Asian Games security check

BEIJING - In a massive security operation ahead of the Asian Games, police in China have arrested 611 people near the host city of Guangzhou, officials said.

The Guangzhou Asian Games are scheduled to be held Nov 12-27.

The ministry of public security Saturday said that police have checked over one million vehicles and more than three million people coming into Guangzhou since Oct 10, when security checks were tightened for the Games, Xinhua reported.
