Nearly 300 Pakistani cops found guilty of crimes

ISLAMABAD - Pakistan’s Interior Minister Rehman Malik Tuesday told the national assembly that a total of 288 police officials have been found guilty of human rights violation and other crimes, including rape, a media report said.

The minister submitted a document which said that of a total of 288 police officers found guilty of being involved in various crimes, 101 have been sent to jail, Online news agency reported.

In Punjab province, 178 police officials were found involved in 74 incidents while in Sindh, 78 police officials were involved in 91 incidents. In Balochistan, 10 police officials were involved in crimes.

In Islamabad, 11 policemen were found involved in five incidents. Of these, four were acquitted while the rest were penalised or sent to jail.

In Pakistan-administered Kashmir, four police officials have been sent to jail for their involvement in such crimes.
