JANGIPUR - Union Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee, who along with Defence Minister A.K. Antony has been asked by Congress chief Sonia Gandhi to probe the Mumbai housing society scam, Sunday said the panel was yet to discuss the matter.

Gandhi Saturday formed the two-member panel to probe how the 31-storeyed plush Adarsh Cooperative Housing Society came up on a piece of land meant for the families of Kargil martyrs and the allotment of flats to politicians, bureaucrats and military officials.

“I cannot say anything now. I am here and Antony is in Delhi. We are yet to discuss the matter,” Mukherjee told reporters on the sidelines of a function here.

“After I get back to Delhi we will look into the papers and then give our observations to Soniaji. And then a decision will be taken,” Mukherjee said.

Maharashtra Chief Minister Ashok Chavan has offered to resign following revelations that his mother-in-law, who died earlier this year, owned a flat as well as two of his other relatives.

The opposition Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has demanded Chavan’s immediate resignation and a probe by a Supreme Court judge into the scam.
