Man sets himself afire near Uttar Pradesh assembly

LUCKNOW - A man, who charged police with not making serious efforts to trace his missing wife, set himself on fire outside the state assembly here Wednesday, officials said.

Rajesh Gupta, 38, a resident of Ghaziabad district, set himself afire in the presence of his two minor daughters, aged 11 and 6.

“He received over 60 percent burn injuries. He is being treated at the Lucknow Civil Hospital and his condition is stated to be critical,” police inspector K.N. Mishra told reporters here.

Guptas wife has been missing for the last six months.

Policemen are not ready to listen to my fatherthey (policemen) have even told my father not to visit them in connection with the complaint registered for my mother,” Pinki, Guptas elder daughter, told reporters here.

Meanwhile, Additional Director General Of Police (Law and Order) Brij Lal has sought details about the case from Ghaziabad police.
