Loss due to Pakistan floods pegged at $9.5 bn

ISLAMABAD - Pakistan has suffered a loss of about $9.5 billion in the floods that ravaged the country, says a report prepared by the World Bank and the Asian Development Bank.

The preliminary Damage Need Assessment (DNA) report says that Pakistan suffered a loss of about $9.5 billion (over Rs.800 billion) in the floods due to damages to crops, infrastructure and public and private property.

The report has been presented to the Planning Commission, Dawn reported Wednesday.

The floods in Pakistan killed 1,700 people and affected more than 20 million.

Sindh suffered the maximum damage amounting to around Rs.350 billion, followed by Punjab Rs.253 billion, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Rs.103 billion, Balochistan Rs.55 billion and Federally Administered Tribal Areas (FATA) Rs.5 billion.
