Engine fire empties plane in Orlando; no injuries
ORLANDO, Fla. — An engine fire has forced passengers to evacuate an Allegiant Air jet at Orlando-Sanford International Airport, but nobody was injured.
The Federal Aviation Administration says Flight 700 to Roanoke, Va., was still at the gate Friday morning when the right engine caught fire. It was quickly extinguished.
Passengers left through the jetway and didn’t have to use emergency slides on the MD-80 aircraft.
An Allegiant Air spokeswoman said 142 passengers were onboard and would be placed on the next flight.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
