MUMBAI - Four labourers were killed when the service lift in a under construction building in Navi Mumbai crashed late Saturday, police said.

According to police, the incident took place when the lift was carrying the labourers to the top of the 27-floor Triveni Tower in Ghansoli suburb of Navi Mumbai, around 20 km from here.

As the lift reached the 25th floor, a supporting cable is believed to have snapped, leading to the lift’s crash and the death of the occupants, a police official said, adding that a probe had been launched.

Details on the identity of the victims were not available with police.
