Reportedly, the workers were cutting a car apart when something ignited in a dumpster. This followed an explosion and seeing black smoke from the general store about a half mile away people got excited, and one of the witnesses reported the event. The Carmel area Fire Departments as responded to the explosion that took place on the Main Road in Carmel and the fire was put out in about a half hour, but it did cause some anxious moments for firefighters.

Carmel Fire Chief Michael Azevedo reported to the press that,

It could be anything. Explosive hazards, firefighters have been killed fighting these things. So as you can see the trucks are far enough back. You take it slow and easy until we see what’s in there.

The yard has been in business for few weeks now and this incident caused them great material loss. An employee had been taken to the hospital post the blast due to burns in his hands.

These sort of accidents mainly take place due to un-attentiveness and carelessness. While working in an environment like this people should concentrate more on how to carry on the work safely.
