LUCKNOW - Rail traffic was disrupted on the busy Delhi-Howrah route after five wagons of a goods train derailed in Uttar Pradesh’s Auraiya district Tuesday, officials said. No one was reported injured or killed in the accident.

The derailment took place near the Kanchausi railway station in Auraiya district, some 150 km from here.

“The exact cause behind the derailment is yet to be established. An enquiry has been initiated in this regard by the railway officials,” P.K. Kamal, the superintendent of Etawah railway station within whose jurisdiction the accident site comes, told reporters in Etawah, some 300 km from Lucknow.

“The derailment has substantially damaged the tracks. A team of railway officials would soon arrive at the site to carry out operations for restoring the rail route,” he said.

The goods train was headed to Mughalsarai in the state’s Chanduali district, some 300 km from here, from Ghaziabad.
