BEIJING - China Sunday raised the alert level for typhoon Fanapi as it nears the country’s south coast, a media report said.

The meteorological authority said it will make landfall Monday between Guangdong and Fujian provinces and will move westward at 20 kmph, China Daily reported.

Met officials raised the alert to the second highest level. Fanapi will be the 11th typhoon to hit China this year.

The shipping route linking the Fujian province of China with Jinmen in Taiwan has been closed.

An official said Fanapi will weaken shortly after making landfall.
