Aerobridge Takes Life Of AirAsia Officer

HYDERABAD, INDIA (GaeaTimes.com)- In a shocking development a Kolkata based a 25 year old lady named Amrita Roy lost her life after her right hand was severed in a retracting aerobridge. The incident took place at the Hyderabad airport yesterday. The lady was standing at the aircraft door edge at that time when the incident took place. The flight was destined to fly to Kualalampur and the office had just finished welcoming the passengers to the flight. She noticed the aerobridge retracting at that point of time and jumped to stand on it. The metal folding rings of the long aerobridge closed on her hand as she was trying to hold on to something. Ina fraction of second her right hand got crushed and nobody could help her. Her hand was extricated from the aerobridge later.

The aerobridge incident probably sent her in a trauma and she passed away at the adjacent Apollo medical centre after bleeding profusely. The lady was the only child of Sudakshina Roy and Kamal Roy, residents of Kolkata. She was supposed to tie the knot in November this year. They are shell shocked as one can understand and have left to get her body from Hyderabad. The Hyderabad Police said that a case of death owing to negligence has been lodged. The airport which started its operation in November 2008 did not witness any major mishap earlier as the airport authorities have reported.

Air Asia expressed grief at the incident and said that Amrita Roy was a diligent employee of the airline. Her death by hand severing in Aerobridge is truly unfortunate they said.
