New Zealand Earthquake Causes Widespread Destruction

CHRISTCHURCH, NEW ZEALAND (GaeaTimes.com)- New Zealand was hit a 7.0 magnitude earthquake on the wee hours of Saturday morning. The earthquake which rocked the city of Christchurch which resulted in buildings across crumbling down while the water and sewage connections were disrupted. The extent of the damage was not limited to only this as bridges across the second largest city of New Zealand were destroyed and at the same time the electricity supply was also interrupted. Fortunately, officials have confirmed that no one has been killed in the earthquake.
New Zealand prime minister John Key arrived at the city to take a closer look at the extensive destruction caused by the earthquake and he was also accompanied by John Carter who is the civil defense minister of the nation. The civil defense minister told the media sources that the authorities are in the process of evacuating the residents of the city while a state of emergency has also been declared. Given the fact that Christchurch witnessed a series of after shocks following the massive tremor, residents have been asked to stay away from the destroyed buildings fearing further collapses. In the meanwhile, it has also been revealed that the assistance from the army is being sorted to provide safety and security to the people who have been majorly affected by the New Zealand earthquake.
For the residents of the second largest city of New Zealand, the earthquake surely turned out to be a nightmarish experience as a sense of panic gripped the residents as the they rushed to the streets just to find it covered in rubble as well as shattered glass.
