One killed in Maharashtra factory blast

NASHIK - One worker was killed and six others injured in a blast which ripped through a polymer factory in this Maharashtra city Friday, a police official said.

As per preliminary investigations, the blast took place in the coating oven in the factory premises in the Satpur industrial area on the outskirts of the city.

“Around 12.30 p.m. there was a powerful explosion in the oven which ripped off the shed and other equipment in the Entremonde Polycoater company here,” Satpur police station inspector Gorakh Patil told IANS.

The victim who succumbed in the explosion has been identified as Asif Khan, 32.

The injured - Siroz Hinjari, 19, Kiran Gaikwad, 19, Sandesh Shinde, 20, Sunil Pote, 35, Ramchandra Patil, 50 and Sardarsingh Pardeshi, 54 - have been admitted to the Wockhardt Hospital and their condition is reported as stable, Patil said.

Investigations are underway to ascertain the cause of the blast, police said.

Nashik is about 190 km from Mumbai.
