GANDHINAGAR - Teesta Setalvad, an NGO activist, Thursday urged a panel probing the 2002 Godhra train carnage and communal riots in Gujarat to seek a second affidavit from the then officials giving details of the role of Chief Minister Narendra Modi and his cabinet

Setalvad, secretary of Citizens for Peace and Justice (CPJ), in her submission before the Nanavati-Mehta judicial inquiry commission probing the carnage and riots, said that former additional chief secretary (home) Ashok Narayan, former director general of police A.K. Chakravarty, and former Ahmedabad Commissioners of Police K.R. Kaushik and P.C. Pande have consciously not filed a second affidavit that could expose the role of the chief minister and his cabinet.

She said Modi, the then chief secretary Subba Rao and numerous other ministers and legislators should be compelled to file affidavits disclosing details about their actions at the time of the violence.
