NEW YORK (GaeaTimes.com) — Long Island Rail Road gets back to business with very limited service after a fire at a switching tower on Monday morning. The tower is located on the east side of Jamaica Station in Queens.

The evening rush demands service at its best. So, to make things run smoothly LIRR is reportedly coming up with an “alternative service plan.” The evening count is of around 100,000 daily LIRR riders.

The fire knocked out services at 10 out of 11 stations with just the Port Washington Branch retaining proper workability.

LIRR service advisory read: “very limited service has been restored through Jamaica. Please listen to announcements for further service details.” at around 3:21 p.m.

Thankfully, no injuries have been reported as yet. LIRR Trains were halted at nearby stations before the fire broke out.
