BEIJING - A 50-year-old man was rescued Wednesday after more than three days of being trapped in knee-deep sludge from the deadly mudslides that hit China’s Gansu province.

Wang Dianlan was found at 9 a.m. stuck in sludge by troops of the People’s Liberation Army on the second floor of Zhouqu county’s Fuxing Hotel, which withstood the massive mudslides that began Sunday midnight. He had survived on dry noodles, but was dehydrated, Xinhua reported.

At least 702 people were killed and 1,042 went missing in rain-triggered mudslides Sunday, which affected over 45,00 people in Zhouqu county in the Tibetan autonomous prefecture of Gannan.

Wang was slightly deaf, and did not hear the rescuers nor look for help himself until he ran out of food Wednesday.
