LADAKH, INDIA (GaeaTimes.com)- After going through one of the worst natural disasters of recent times the mountain town of Leh is slowly limping back to life. The town along with a few adjacent villages was hit by a devastating cloudburst and subsequent flash flood which made a mess of the region. More than 100 people have died and over 300 are injured. While the rescue work is progressing it will still take some time to restore the severed telecommunication link. The restoration is almost complete at the airport and the Leh Airport has been cleared of the thick slush that inundated its runway and stalled all air flight operations yesterday. It was made possible after the army and air force personnel joined hands to clean the runway on an emergency basis.

After the Leh airport became operational the relief planes landed with relief materials and additional manpower. The Indian Air force sent two large IL-76s as well as three AN-32s with a medical team, medicines and relief stuffs. A lot of people have sustained injury in the disaster and the condition of some victims is quite critical as it has been reported. The regional hospitals are packed with the injured people. Reportedly 400 people are still missing and the hunt is on to track them.

Leh residents have also started rescuing the affected victims and a heartening sign is that even some of the stranded tourists are lending helping hands. Choglamsar is possibly threw ors affected village. The children who got trapped in the houses hit by the flood have been rescued.
