GERMANY (GaeaTimes.com) — The Love Parade is a popular electronic dance music festival and parade that originated in 1989 in West Berlin, German. It used to be held in Germany annually between 1989 and 2003, and then from 2006 to 2010. The 2004 and 2005 events in Berlin and the 2009 events in Bochum were canceled.
This year, on 24 July 2010, at least 19 people were killed in a stampede in a tunnel at the Love Parade. At least 350 others were injured. As a consequence of this, the organizer of the festival announced that no further Love Parades would be held in future. They also said that the Love Festival was permanently canceled.
Till date love parades have been organized in places like:
Sydney, Australia
Vienna, Austria
Rio de Janeiro, Brazil
Santiago, Chile
Leeds, England
Budapest, Hungary
Tel Aviv, Israel
Mexico City and Acapulco, Mexico
Oslo, Norway
Cape Town, South Africa
Geneva and Zurich, Switzerland
Caracas, Venezuela
San Francisco, California; and Little Rock, Arkansas, U.S.
The survivors of Love Parade 2010 are furious. They are questioning the organizers after the series of deaths that followed the German Love Parade.
Reportedly, 18 of the deceased had been identified, including six from Australia, Italy, Netherlands, China and two from Spain.
Deputy police chief Detlef von Schmeling said,
Fourteen people died on the metal steps leading away from the tunnel, two on a wall outside the tunnel.
Anneke Kuypers (18) from New Zealand said,
I saw dead people in the tunnel, others alive but unconscious on the ground.
So, “This is the end my friend !” No more love parades will be there in near future.
