MUMBAI - Two teenagers drowned Monday after they got trapped in strong waves at Mumbai’s suburban Bandra seaface, an official said.

“Three friends had gone to the Bandra Bandstand. They ventured into the sea and lost control,” said the fire brigade official.

“We were able to rescue one of them and the bodies of the other two were found,” the official said.

The bodies of Maslauddin Mohammed Shaukat Hashmi, 18, and Mohammed Ali Irfan Aslam Shaikh, 19, were sent to the K.B. Bhabha Hospital.

This is the second such incident in the past two days.

On Sunday, two youth drowned after they got trapped in a deep pond near a waterfall inside the Sanjay Gandhi National Park here.

The victims - Jayesh Asgaonkar, 22, and Pramod Kadhav, 19, - were part of a six-member group which went for a picnic to the park, situated in northwest Mumbai.

Four of their friends were also trapped in the pond waters but managed to swim to safety.
