Mumbai Port Trust Gas Leak Kills 3

MUMBAI, INDIA (GaeaTimes.com)- Mumbai Port Trust witnessed a major gas leak which killed three people on Wednesday. Reportedly, the killings were caused by inhaling chlorine gas which leaked from the cylinders that were kept near the Mumbai Port Trust area.
Besides three deaths, 60 other has been hospitalized out of which six were said to be in critical state. 14 people were admitted in the JJ Hospital which stands close to Mumbai Port Trust. The media was informed that most of them are college going teenagers and are currently under the supervision of the medicos.Uday Tatkare who happens to be the Chief Fire Officer in the Mumbai Port Trust told the media that the leaked cylinder is placed below other cylinders which is making their job difficult to retrieve it from it’s space. He also said that this is one of many cylinders which the custom officials of Mumbai Port Trust had seized.Following the leakage of the gas, the fire officer led his team in the Sewa area of Mumbai Port Trust where they plugged a stopper to the cylinder. However, special care is being taken so that no more gas leak takes place from the cylinder.
To prevent further accidents, all nearby residents of the Mumbai Port Trust area have been evacuated. P. P. Lahane who happens to be the Dean of JJ Hospital reported that 14 of the injured were released in the later half of the day while 44 are still under medical supervision. The medicos informed that the affected have complained of burning sensation in their lungs. They are also facing difficulties in breathing and have been shifted to ICU (Intensive Care Unit). The Mumbai Port Trust cops have launched an investigation to figure out the cause of gas leak.
