Former railway minister’s son arrested

GANDHINAGAR - Sangramsinh Rathwa, the son of Naran Rathwa, former union minister of state for railways in the first UPA government, was arrested for the second time in 24 hours in Vadodara Tuesday for assaulting a government employee.

He was arrested Monday night by the Railway Protection Force (RPF) for assaulting a government employee and under the Arms Act, but was released on bail. He was arrested again for violating the law, only to be released again on bail.

Police sources said that on Monday Sangramsinh had sought to intervene on behalf of some of his friends who had been arrested for cornering seats in trains at the Vadodara railway station. An agitated Sangramsinh reportedly assaulted an RPF trooper after his efforts to get his friends released failed to yield results.

According to Sub-Inspector K.R. Solanki of the railway police station, Vadodara, Sangramsinh was granted bail by the judicial magistrate, first class, traffic court. The RPF, however arrested him again on charges of violation of law and order. He was produced before the sub divisional magistrate, Vadodara, and later released on bail.
