GANDHINAGAR - Terming the deportation of foreign nationals a matter of national interest, the Gujarat High Court Monday sought written submissions of all parties on a public suit related to the issue.

A division bench comprising Chief Justice S.J. Mukhopadhaya and Justice K.M. Thaker, which was hearing a petition challenging “inadequate pursuance of procedures” in the deportation of foreign nationals, said: “The participation of all parties to the case is required as the court would either have to prohibit or direct the respondents i.e. the state and the central government, with certain observations.”

The chief justice told the counsel for the petitioner, Mukul Sinha: “You have to give your written submissions by next date when the court has already directed you in the previous order.”

The court had earlier stated that there was an urgent need to lay down a clear procedure of law in cases relating to detention and deportation of foreign nationals.
