NAGPUR, INDIA (GaeaTimes.com)- The death toll from brain fever is on the rise and according to the latest unofficial figures obtained from the eastern part of Vidarbha in Nagpur as many as 14 children have died after being affected by the disease. However, when the issue should have been dealt with the utmost importance, the government health officials seem to be the least bothered. In fact most among them were not even present at their offices, while some were enjoying a holiday at home, others were trying to arrange a transfer to other locations.
The result is that nobody can be sure about the exact number of lives that brain fever has taken in a span of only three weeks. The virus has mostly affected the people, especially children, of the Bhandara, Chandrapur and Gadchiroli districts of Nagpur. Doctors of the nearby Government Medical College and Hospital and the Indira Gandhi Government Medical College said that they could do nothing to save the ailing children as they died even before the results of their tests for the brain fever virus could reach Nagpur from Pune.
The outbreak of brain fever was first seen in the month of June in the Bhandara district of Nagpur and since then 44 cases have been reported by the state government. Health officials reported that the 44 blood samples had been sent to the National Institute of Virology in Pune where it was detected that the virus which has gradually spread throughout the state is the brain fever virus. However doctors in these lesser developed parts of Nagpur are not much equipped to provide treatment to the patients claimed the reports from Nagpur.
