Earthquake July 7, 2010: No Major Damages

LOS ANGELES (GaeaTimes.com)- A moderate 5.4 magnitude earthquake on July 7 2010 hit the southern part of California as people were returning home from work. The epicenter of the earthquake that was located 13 miles northwest of Borrego Springs and 58 miles northwest of San Diego. The Earthquake was at a depth of 11.7 kilometers as per the United States Geological Survey. Initially the earthquake was reported to be of a magnitude of 5.9 but it was later calculated to be of 5.4 magnitude. No major damages or injury reports have been received by the police of the counties that have been hit by the earthquake.
The July 7, 2010 earthquake was felt most intensely in high rises of the city. The closest to the epicenter of the earthquake was Borrego Springs of San Diego but a spokesman of the San Diego County Fire Department said to media sources that no report of any damage has been received. Although the magnitude of the earthquake only rattled the furniture and glass bottles, the rides in Disneyland were halted for few minutes after the seismic activity for inspection. The spokeswoman said that it was a mandatory activity under the resort policy and would take only few minutes to check. While some rides resumed to service within few minutes others were still being inspected.
However, the Los Angeles earthquake of July 7, 2010 had terrified many people who have voiced that they had never felt a jolt like Wednesday earthquake before. Many called up the Sheriff’s department to know about the jolt. Many people came out of their buildings as the earthquake tremor continued for around 30 seconds.
