Boat collision kills 1 near Statue of Liberty
NEW YORK — Two pleasure boats have collided near the Statue of Liberty, killing one person and injuring two others.
U.S. Coast Guard Petty Officer Thomas McKenzie says the Friday evening crash in New York Harbor near Liberty Island killed a boater. Two other boaters have been taken to hospitals. Their conditions aren’t known.
The Coast Guard, the New York Police Department and U.S. parks police responded to help the boaters.
The cause of the crash hasn’t been determined. The NYPD is investigating.
