PANAJI - Missing for nearly a month, former Goa tourism minister Mickky Pacheco, who is an accused in the mysterious death of his 28-year-old lover, could be declared an absconder, police said Thursday.

Police sources told IANS that the Crime Branch which is probing the death of the former minister’s paramour Nadia Torrado, would move an application before a local court Friday, seeking to declare Pacheco an absconder.

Pacheco’s application for anticipatory bail was rejected by the Supreme Court Thursday.

“We will move the trial court in Margao for declaring Mickky as an absconder. We have already sent him several summons, to which he has failed to respond to,” a police official said.

Pacheco and his aide Lyndon Monteiro face culpable homicide charges in connection with Nadia’s death on May 30. Nadia died after consuming rat poison following an apparent row with Pacheco.

The former minister went underground after being grilled by the Crime Branch for over nine hours June 4.
