TAIPEI - A four-year-old Taiwanese boy survived a fall from the 11th floor with only a broken leg Friday, after landing on a second-floor awning.

The boy fell from the balcony of his home Friday morning in Kaohsiung, southern Taiwan, while he was home alone, cable television channel TVBS reported.

His fall was broken when he landed on the awning above the entrance to the building.

The boy, still conscious, was rushed to a nearby hospital with a broken leg and injuries to his head and limbs, TVBS said.

Liu Hui-ying, a social worker from the Kaohsiung city government, said the boy’s parents could be held responsible for the accident because under Taiwan law, children under the age of six cannot be left alone at home.
