MONTCOAL, W.Va. — Inspection teams have resumed searching the West Virginia coal mine where 29 men died in the industry’s worst U.S. disaster in 40 years.

Owner Massey Energy says the teams returned to the Upper Big Branch mine Monday morning. Teams of company and government workers are trying to make sure the mine is safe before investigators start looking for clues to the April 5 explosion.

Virginia-based Massey and the federal Mine Safety and Health Administration say they found two small spots where coal was on fire, but extinguished them Friday.
