Eight killed in Uttar Pradesh accident

LUCKNOW - At least eight people were killed and five injured when a speeding truck rammed into their vehicle in Uttar Pradesh’s Lalitpur district early Thursday, police said.

The accident took place at around 2 a.m. in the Talbehat area, some 300 km from Lucknow.

“According to eyewitnesses, the speeding truck spun out of control and hit the Tata Qualis. While five people died on the spot, three breathed their last on their way to the hospital,” police inspector Nawal Kishore Tiwari told reporters in Lalitpur.

“The injured are being treated at a hospital. The condition of three is stated to be critical. We have constituted teams to nab the truck driver who managed to escape,” he added.

Those killed in the accident hail from Madhya Pradesh, police said.
