Magnitude 6 quake hits New Zealand

AUCKLAND - An earthquake measuring 6.0 on the Richter scale hit New Zealand Thursday, but there was no immediate report of any casualty, the US Geological Survey (USGS) said.

The quake hit the southern region of Kermadec Islands at 1306 GMT, Xinhua reported.

The epicentre was about 220 km south-southwest of L’Esperance Rock in Kermadec Islands, and 625 km northeast of Auckland, at a depth of 156.1 km.
