GREATER NOIDA - Heavy security was Tuesday deployed in Kalonda village of Greater Noida and several people were detained after one person was killed and six critically injured in a communal clash a day earlier, police said Tuesday.

A heavy force, comprising five companies of Provinicial Armed Constabulary (PAC) and police, were deployed in the wake of the clashes that occurred between two communities late Monday.

A group from one community, reportedly armed with pistols, opened fire on members of the other community, police said.

One person was killed while six were critically injured. Over two dozen dung hutments were also reduced to ashes by setting them on fire, sources in the village said.

The wounded were rushed to Naveen Hospital in Dadri, where the condition of one was said to be serious.

Incidents of stone-pelting between the two communities were also reported from the village Tuesday morning.

Superintendent of Police (Greater Noida) S.K. Verma said: “The situation has been brought under control. Tensions have eased. We have detained several people from the village who were involved in the incident. A heavy force is still under deployment to prevent any further eruption.”
