GREATER NOIDA - In a suspected case of honour killing, a 17-year-old girl was poisoned and strangled by her father and two brothers for having a love affair in Uttar Pradesh’s Greater Noida township, police said Thursday. The three have been arrested.

After killing the girl, the three members of her family cremated her in a cremation ground near their house in Dujana neighbourhood under Badalpur police station of Greater Noida Wednesday evening, police said.

According to Superintendent of Police Atul Saxena, Gunjan, studying in intermediate in a local school in Dujana, was in love with Neeraj who was also studying in the same school.

Neeraj was also a resident of their neighbourhood.

The two were said to be carrying on the affair for the last two years. Gunjan had also eloped with the boy twice in the last two years.

On Wednesday evening, the girl’ father and her two brothers poisoned her in Patwari Bagh area.

They then strangled Gunjan after which they took her body to a cremation ground on the outskirts of Dujana itself and cremated her, police said.

On the complaint of Dharam Pal, a watchman residing in Dujana, a murder case was registered at Badalpur police station against the girls’s father Raghuraj and brothers Jitendra and Harendra.

A case was also registered against the girl’s uncles - Naresh and Ashok.

“We have arrested Raghuraj, Jitendra and Harendra. The other two are absconding. The girl’s father told us that her daughter had brought a lot of disgrace and disrespect to the family because of her activities,” the station house officer said.
