At least 23 killed in Bangladesh landslides

COX’S BAZAR, Bangladesh — Officials say landslides triggered by heavy rains have killed at least 23 people and left several others missing in southeastern Bangladesh.

Government official Giasuddin Ahmed says mudslides struck early Tuesday in two areas in the southern coastal area. Ahmed says 19 bodies have been recovered.

Police official Zahirul Hoque says another landslide has killed four members of a family in a separate area. Huge chunks of mud buried the victims’ home.

Rescue operations are continuing but rains are hampering efforts.
