President Barack Obama plans a nationally televised address Tuesday night from the Oval Office on his administration’s efforts to contain the massive oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico.
The address is scheduled for 8 p.m. EDT.
It will be the first time Obama has spoken to the nation from the solemn venue of the Oval Office.
The president, who is trying to show the public he is in command of the situation, will take to the airwaves hours after he returns to Washington from the his fourth trip to a Gulf region suffering from the oil coming ashore in coastal areas of Louisiana, Mississippi, Alabama and Florida.
